Sims Pond
Sim’s pond is an ecological preserve, created in 1979 and owned jointly by Del Lago and Bay Harbor HOA’s, until 2003. It was required by the California Coastal Commission, when approving the construction of the area homes. The HOA’s owned and maintained the pond, under the direction of the Dept. of Fish and Game, until it was deeded to the City of Long Beach. The City now owns and maintains the pond. The pond area covers six acres and is under the jurisdiction of the Coastal Commission and the California Department of Fish and Game.

The pond is the home of numerous shore birds and hosts many migratory birds. Mallard ducks, mud hens, black crested night herons, great blue herons, kingfishers, terns and bitterns can be seen year around. There are also bull frogs, turtles and other critters living in the pond area.

Besides the Del Lago homes which back up to the pond, it can be viewed from the ends of Seville Way, Miguel Way and Madrid Lane, inside of the Del Lago gates. There is also viewing along Loynes Drive and PCH.

Besides no access, it is also prohibited to release domestic animals, deposit trash or any material into the pond.

Sims Pond is maintained by the City's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. If you have any questions or problems concerning the pond, contact their direct site maintenance person, Lenny Arkinstall, at 562-225-4669 or 562-493-8985 or lennyeva@earthlink.net
